Join a class

When you join Shed Coders you will be assigned to a class which is compatible with your coding experience and your age. The age ranges are not strict, I had students coding in Python at 11.

Under 11

If you are under 11 the natural choice is Scratch. This tool allows you to start thinking like a coder; you will learn about variables, functions and loops. This knowledge is immediately transferable to any programming language you will chose to continue your coding journey. But you will also learn gaming specific aspects, like sprites, layers, collisions and signals.

Age 11-14

If you are a complete beginner, I still suggest to have a look at Scratch. You will learn the coding concepts without the hassle of dealing with the programming language syntax. Your main tool will be Python to learn the basic concepts of coding. Besides, it will give you the basis for Godot, your game development platform.

Age 15-18

Absolute beginners will start with Python or Javascript, depending on your goal. If you are into game development, Python leads to Godot, Javascript leads to Phaser. If you are more oriented towards full stack development… both. And then there’s SQL, HTML5, CSS …

Adults

I keep adults in separate classes, but the path is basically the same, and it depends on your objectives. Adults normally come with a specific problem to solve. I will help in defining a learning path and follow you along the way with dedicated meeting
